Lengthy ban for drug driver

David Green, of Ince Green Lane, was also ordered to pay £266 costs at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court this week having pleaded guilty.

The hearing was told officers stopped the 48-year-old while he was driving a Ford car at 2am on Warrington Lane on February 6 earlier this year.

Officers recorded that Green’s eyes were glazed, slightly bloodshot and yellow. He tested positive for cocaine in a roadside test and further analysis found he had a level of 77 micrograms of benzoylecgonine which is a metabolite of cocaine.

The legal limit is 50 micrograms.

Bill Pearson, defending, said Green has “had the worst 12 months of his life” and had turned to a recreational use of cocaine because he was at a “low ebb” with a number of personal issues.

He is now seeking medical help, the court was told.

In addition to the ban he will pay a £161 fine, £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £20.
