ARSONISTS torched three cars in a residential street.

Fire crews from Atherton were called Lever Street, at the top of Prospect Street, in Tyldesley, at 4.30am on Sunday, following reports two Citroens and a Peugeot had been set alight.

Firefighters with breathing apparatus tackled the flames using a hose reel and were at the scene for an hour.

A spokesman for Atherton Fire Service said: “The cars were parked up next to each other outside a block of flats and someone had set fire to them.

“Luckily the fire had not spread to the flats.

“The owners of the cars were in total shock.”

Greater Manchester Police were also at the scene and are currently reviewing CCTV footage.
