First-half goals from Viv Solomon-Otabor and Curtis Tilt gave Latics a second win - with a second clean sheet - in the space of three days.

Plymouth will point to hitting the woodwork three times, but Latics will feel they've suffered enough this term for the Gods to finally be on their side.

Out of the bottom four for the first time since Halloween, Richardson's men are now bursting with belief and confidence with a dozen matches to go.

"The lads again have worked tirelessly hard, after a tough game Saturday and a tough journey down here," said the Latics manager.

"The game started at a pace, we managed to get our noises in front and, on the balance of play, possibly deserved our victory.

"All the credit has to go to the players, they've had to endure so much and they're still going and still fighting as hard as they can.

"To win back-to-back games is pleasing at any level, and we'll enjoy this tonight on the long way home."

Latics were boosted by the inclusion of Wales international midfielder Lee Evans for only the second time in five months.

And with Gavin Massey also back in the groove after a long-term absence, Richardson finally has tough selection problems on his plate.

"Players of that quality will always make a massive difference to any team at this level," he acknowledged.

"The disappointing thing is they haven't played as much football this season as they'd have liked.

"Hopefully they're both fit now, and they'll stay fit for the remainder of the season, which would be a big help."

With off-field events also looking up - and the Bahrain consortium closing in on a takeover - Latics fans can finally see light at the end of a very long tunnel.

"The lads have been working hard and tirelessly for months now," added Richardson.

"Obviously we're hearing promising things are happening off the field, and fingers crossed something will be public soon.

"I've said many times before, this is a great club with a great fanbase, and there's still some fantastic people working here.

"If we can keep winning, that will help the mood about the place, but there's still a long way to go yet and still a lot of work to do."
